Iowa Public Television (IPTV) offers professional development for Iowa educators wanting to utilize the School to Careers (STC) project.
IPTV utilization specialists, themselves former educators, help educators make connections between classroom curricula and the images and sound bites featured in the videos and on the STC Web site. Educators learn how to utilize all components of the STC project as an effective teaching and learning tool.
In addition to career exploration activities, the STC project can be tied directly to the learning goals outlined in curriculum for math, science, language arts, social studies, art, science, family and consumer science and industrial technology classes.
Elementary versions of some careers are also available on video. The elementary videos are designed to create awareness of careers and to help children build relationships between work and learning.
Professional development can be customized to individual district learning goals and needs. Educators will learn strategies for integrating the STC project into their curriculum and walk away with practical models for their subject and grade level.
