Career Profile:
Communications and Marketing Specialist #1002
This marketing specialist's interest in working with the public began in local government. While in high school, she served on the Mayor's Youth Commission in her hometown in Northwest Iowa. As a college student, she decided a public relations major was a good fit for her interests.
Her career began at non-profit agencies where she did everything from write press releases to develop Web sites. She switched gears and entered the high-tech business world where she still handles corporate marketing and public relations.
This native Iowan enjoys the diversity of her work because she says no two days are the same. The challenge is gathering knowledge about the entire company she represents. She says students interested in this career need to be strong writers who know how to conduct Internet research. Math skills are also important because she communicates corporate financial information to the public.
