Career Profile:
Hairdresser #1190

In fear of what his buddies might think, this hairdresser was hesitant to enter into a cosmetology career. But after learning of a friend’s positive experience in the business, he decided to go for it.

He attended a 12-month program at a cosmetology college. He then became good friends with the school's owner and managed one of his salons. Realizing he wanted more exposure in a commercial setting, he decided to rent his own chair and become self-employed. A few years later he facilitated the same opportunity for other cosmetologists.

Today, this hairdresser owns an established salon and has traveled the world to receive advanced training. Although he is licensed to do hair, makeup, manicures, pedicures and hair-removal waxings, these days he chooses to spend his days cutting and styling hair. He says the job is most gratifying when a customer is satisfied and seeks his service over and over again.
