Career Profile: Commodity Broker #1178
This commodity broker grew up on an Iowa farm, but wasn't interested in farming. Today, farmers and grain elevators rely on him to make their transactions at the Chicago Board of Trade. He also helps clients make good decisions by providing them with up-to-date information about the markets.
After earning a degree in agricultural business, he started a career as a grain merchandiser. He eventually went to work as a commodity broker, which required him to take a licensing exam.
He says writing and public speaking skills are just as important as math, economics and business knowledge. He says he enjoys his career because it connects him to the land and the way of life he knew as a child.
