Until the age of nineteen, this electrician lived on the family farm. He completed two years of electronics during high school and developed a strong interest in electricity. Since he was accustomed to working with his hands in an outdoor environment, he decided to pursue a position as a construction electrician.
He then learned about a local electrical apprenticeship program where he would be provided with employment and education. After completing the apprenticeship program, he advanced in his field and eventually became a general foreman.
It did not take him long to advance into leadership roles of the apprenticeship program, from committee member, to chairman, to instructor, and then statewide Training Director.
