This composer grew up wanting to become an actress. She pursued that dream during high school by participating in school plays and acting in the local community theater. She went to college and entered the performing arts program, but she soon found she was drawn to music. Although she still loved to act, she began to focus on a major in music theory and composition.
This major proved to be the perfect choice for her. Before she graduated, she was already finding work composing music and writing songs for local video production companies and advertising agencies. She also had opportunities to act occasionally. However, she decided to add the requirements of a music education degree, when she discovered she loved working with young people during an internship with the community playhouse. After graduation, she took a teaching position. She really enjoyed teaching, but with the birth of her first child, she decided she needed a more flexible schedule.
Finding work was not a problem. When asked what she does for a living, she says she is an actress, songwriter, professional musician, composer, teacher and occasionally underscores movies. Although she finds herself working in a glamorous industry she will quickly tell you being a mother keeps her 'grounded.'
