Chemical Engineer
Applies the principles of chemistry and engineering to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals. Develops new ways to make chemicals and related products. Designs equipment and develops processes for manufacturing chemicals. Plans and tests methods of manufacturing chemical products, and supervises production. Helps design, build, and operate plants that use or process chemicals. Must have a knowledge of chemistry, physics, and mechanical and electrical engineering. Often specializes in one area such as pollution control, heat transfer, or the production of certain types of products such as plastics or drugs. Uses computers to record and analyze data. May use computer-aided design systems to produce and analyze designs. Writes technical or research reports. May teach or do research.
